Welcome to Bits and Bots Learning
Bits and Bots Learning was established by David Hemer in 2024. David is a registered High School teacher with over 30 years experience working in education in Digital Technologies (coding, robotics and electronics) and Mathematics.
From the early 1990s David worked as a researcher in Software Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Queensland. During this time he worked on the development of code for critical systems.
In 2004, David moved back to Adelaide, taking up Lecturing position at the University of Adelaide. Here he taught Computer Science and Software Engineering. One of David’s fondest memories of this time was working with groups of final year students as they undertook a major Software Engineering project in groups of 5-7. Students were required to program robots to complete complex tasks, whilst also having to deal with the complexities of working in a group.
At the beginning of 2012, David made the switch to become a high teacher. During this time he has taught mathematics and digital technologies across a broad range of year levels and ability. David has been active in creating innovative courses during this time, including the development of courses that integrate coding into mathematics. He has also developed a Smart Technologies course the incorporates coding, electronics and design to solve real-world problems. David has also coached and managed several teams at his school who have entered the First Lego League robotics competitions, including taking one team to the Nationals.
